More than 35, 000 students benefit from Sh 103,450,000 million County bursaries

ore than 35,000 Embu needy students have benefited from over Sh 100,000,000 in county bursaries in year 2018/2019.

The beneficiaries are studying in various day and boarding secondary schools, special schools, colleges, TVET and Universities across the country.

Speaking to Secondary Schools’ Principals and representatives from the various beneficiary institutions at Embu Talent Academy, the Fund manager Jeremiah W. Ireri  said that the amount disbursed was Phase 2 of the Embu County Education Support Fund for year 2018/2019 bursaries. 

"Today we have disbursed Sh50.45 million, in June last year we issued bursary cheques of more than Sh50 million," said Ireri. 

Embu County Education Support Fund has so far distributed bursaries worth Sh103.45 million in the financial year 2018/2019. Phase 1 of the bursaries for day secondary schools and polytechnics was launched mid last year at St. Benedict's Day Secondary School, Kithimu. 

The Chief Guest at the event, the County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Education Mr. John Kiamati said, "Embu County Governor, His Excellency Martin Wambora has been in the forefront to ensure that the County Government prioritizes education" 

The CECM added that the county fund not only supports the government's 100 per cent transition to Secondary School, access and equity but will also culminate to job creation hence future prosperity of the county.  He said plans are underway to establish a County Scholarship Program that will see students paid for fees in their four years of secondary school.

The 35,025 beneficiaries comprised of 17,963 girls and 17,062 boys.

In phase 2 of the disbursement, Boarding Secondary Schools had 3,832 beneficiaries who received a total of ksh 20,829,977 while 2,095 University students benefited with ksh 13,708,000. 

Beneficiaries studying in Colleges totaled to 2,345 while those from Vocational Training Centers, Special Schools and Day Secondary Schools were 385, 206 and 188 respectively.
