Cereal Growers' Association, Embu County Government team up for Nutritional Security 


Cereal Growers Association (CGA) in partnership with Embu County Government through the Department of Agriculture, Livestock, Blue economy and Cooperatives plans to support 80 schools in Embu County by supplying HIB (High Iron Beans) seeds for cultivation on 800 acres of school farms. This initiative aims to boost local food production and improve school feeding programs.

Additionally, CGA, along with partners, will educate 3,000 farmers in Embu County to produce Nyota beans on 3,000 acres to ensure a sufficient supply for schools. CGA will also collaborate with 30 Primary Schools in specific sub counties to provide training and create demonstration farms, ensuring students benefit from nutritious, locally grown foods.

Implemented in five Counties namely Embu, Tharaka-Nithi, Elgeyo-Marakwet, Bomet, and Narok out of forty seven, the project targets 400,000 school children; to provide them with meals rich in iron and zinc. This effort will enhance nutrition and encourage school attendance, benefiting students in early childhood development (ECD), primary, and secondary schools.

Speaking to the press, Embu Governor Hon. Cecily Mbarire who had graced the signing ceremony said, "This will go a long way in ensuring the health of our future. We as Embu people are truly grateful for this partnership and look forward to even greater engagements going forward."
